I had a couple of Bud limes the other day when it was hot. I suppose technically it is beer, although it is closer to pop. No biggie and no problem.
Hi Mark
Welcome! So glad that you are recovering so quickly.
There are different levels of being affected. Some here went ‘locked-in’ for a while. You and I had a milder case. My middle and hands were severely affected as well as balance.
I can walk much better andd am battling away at the rest of the residuals.
If you would like to talk please contact me through private messages.
Best wishes
I too am curious about your collective input. I have $500 from benefits to spend on accu. and am wondering if it could help my hands
I recently had the 5 year anniversary of my mom’s passing. That along with living alone in this one horse town where I was striiken with GBS and lost all of my so-called friends from it….well, it was a sadder than usual time. It drove me to find a natural alternative to SSI’s…..which I am assuming Lyrica is. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor. I have only been on it 5 days but I see a difference. Did not realize how hypersensitive I was until now. It is an amino acid….it is converted by te body into Serotonin….a very powerful neurotransmitter….Trying to drop some pounds, I was eating mainly protein…which did not help produce serotonin. It is more complicated, but I won’t bore you. I did not want the side effects that go along with pharmaceuticals. BUt when I take this amiino acid, alcohol affects the metabolism of it. It is advised not to drink alcohol for at least 6 hours before you use it. Also anyone who has damaged their liver from drinking should not use it.
If you want to know what supplements worked for me, check out some of my old posts. They are working…..no pain meds and I have very little gray hair…..my former students have it and I don’t….so what is Right with this picture???
as far as I know (and I dont know squat) lyrica is not a SSI which is an anti-depressant.
my hands can get to a point where i can ignore them when I am distracted. it is usually during a time when they are resting. more activity bring out more numbness, pain and aches.
I feel it in my teeth sometimes, certainly the tongue is no different
Yesterday’s pain in the a** was an interesting one I call the ‘Bleeding-Heart Constant helper’. This well-wisher wants to do everything for you and moans in sympathy (pity?) when you go about doing things you are capable of. Then they seek pity for themselves for their own shortcomings that essentially boil down to their loss of comforts (such as having the dough to eat at expensive restaurants and how happy they would be in Tuscanny right now.
Sheesh!
That was a nice post Katy. I will also send out thoughts to Jeff as well as those who cant find something for pain and those that are languishing in prison for simply trying to find relief.
Right on Cathie! This new gig sounds great! I hope your move gos well, downsizing can be very ‘theraputic’.
I tach as well, but its gr 8 math, english and music. I have be given the greenlight to stay off work until jan. and am anxious about returning. the pace will be a challenge.
i will follow this thread with great interest!
today’s therapy was living. I went out visiting my sister-in-law with an old friend (but a pain in the a** one at times-worthy of the bug-off thread:p ) Also went out for some vietnamese soup and that was good.
It was nice to get out of the house. yesterday was fun at the liquor store with s friend where the clerks thought I was drunk. i had to laugh and was glad when my friend bought the beeers. They gave him a dirty look for buying it for me and we chuckled about it while drinking a couple on the breezy, shaded patio
keep your positive stories coming!
that’s great Bev! I am so happy for you and I wish you well in your new home. Good luck with making it nice and comfy.
Hi, I know it is frustrating but it is better to take the time now to heal as much as possible. I tried to go back to graduate school too soon and couldn’t manage the work load. If I had waited out another semester or two, it would have worked much better. My hands were the first thing to feel systemic and the last to heal. Best advice I can give you is to try to work on your dexterity (they told me to GENTLY squeeze tennis balls). Playing your guitar should also help but don’t overdo. The tingling is maddening, I know, but eventually it will fade.
Thanks for the encouragement Bev! I luv it!
I’m curious; have you reconsidered taking Lyrica?
Yes I am on it and I am working towards 200mg a day on the way to 300 by next week. I have felt a little spacey, but ist nothing I cant handle and it does dull the nerve pain. I am trying to space 50 mg tabs taking one when the pain is creeping (btw, I wrote some killer lyrics for a tune I will call ‘Creeping Paralysis’ when i get around to writing music for it).
see ya Tina I hope you are having some kind of fun today!
William “The Rerigerator’ Perry from ‘da Bears is recovering from this. Big man went down. FDR apparently had it. Can think of no other notables.
I’ll be a spokesperson, though I’m a nobody……:p
