Hey NGG….how is life treating you?…. When I was in the hospital I listened to a lot of praise music from Michael W. Smith……as I progressed with my recovery and went to a re-hab facility, I began to listen to a lot of old 60’s music..from Blood Sweat and Tears…to the Stones…but my favorite group (and you should really like this NGG) far and away was the Guess Who, Greatest Hits Vol. I. Put the headphones on near bedtime and played for hours at times…..since I am not musical, I have a special respect for those of you who have musical talents……I was lucky enough to see the Guess Who in concert many years ago….Burton Cummings in my opinion had one of the most underrated voices in music for his time……..hope the day is going well……….
Hang on to your life, indeed!

I’m doing as well as well can be, I hope you are too.

GW are a great band and BC does rock. I can picture him now, with a smoke burning in his fingertips….I cant imagine how he could be so powerful like that! Maybe that was his secret. His loss our gain, he really gives himself to his fans.

Tom we are all musical in some way. Linguistic-anthropologists believe we made music before we talked (please forgive my Darwinist leanings here:) ). You could find your voice Tom and if you can count to four you could play bass notes on a djembe in a drum circle:D

    To all,have a pleasant musical day:cool: 😉
Funny thing N G G,
Whenever I stumble or sway in public, I find it easier to just say I had a little too much to drink since explaining GBS is long & nobody understands that, but they do understand a little tippsie!:D
HA! I have had fun going into the liquor and beer stores to buy with friends. I made sure the clerks knew the purchases were for me and had fun looking at their expressions. Gotta have some fun with this SOB GBS;)

    I’ll get the thread going.

I have been listening to a lot musicians whose work reflects life, death, happiness, sorrow, joy and pain.

To me the band Tool has been amazing. Their cds Lateralus and 10,000 Days focus lyrically quite a bit about sadder aspects of life (including a great deal about being very ill) against a very heavy powerful rhythm section. However in many songs there is a sense of a struggle against illness and surviving it, even being reborn from it (the song Lateralus is a perfect example). Much of 10,000 Days is about the singer’s mother who spent roughly 10,000 days in a hospital with a serious illness. Listener attention: some lyrics could be offensive to folks.

I have also enjoyed the last 5 cds that Johnny Cash put out through producer Rick Rubin. These gentle and dynamic works demonstrate Cash’s love for life, unerstanding of death, reflections on sorrow and joy. I’m not religious but listening to Cash singing ‘Why Me Lord’ is the closest I have felt to understanding God’s gift of life. His cover of the Beatles ‘In My Life’ is enhanced by his wisdom and humility which is all over these recordings. Besides that, any singer who can credibly cover artists as diverse as Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, Leonard Cohen, Simon and Garfunkel, Depeche Mode, Hank Williams and many more deserves a listen.
I finally have a new pc! Haven’t been able to reply to any posts for a long time now. Just been able to read on my phone. I also have an interview for a new job! Much less physically demanding & more money! It’ll be nice to be able to come home from work & still be able to feel my hands & feet! :)
This is wonderful news Mandi, so nice to have contact from you! Good luck with the interview!
FINALLY! Some friends to share the Tavern with…

I’ll have one of those Umbrella drinks too Alma. The next round is on me.

Northerguitarguy? I can’t imagine GBS/CIDP and being a guitarist. I play at the cello and never thought I’d play again. It’s so sweet to be able to depress the strings again. We need a jam session … but the band tonight is very smooth. Is that a Chris Cross song they’re playing?

    Gary
Thanks Gary

Indeed, being robbed of the ability to create music (call it dissonance if you will) has been the hardest thing to lose except for what I lost in terms of my family.

It’s great that you are playing again! Keep at it, I guarantee it will promote recovery! Perhaps you could learn to slap that cello and we could jam some rockabilly!

I am starting to play again, but slowly. I can only play one type of style (in an open tuning) but I am learning to have some fun with it. Actually being stuck with this style I have been writing riffs mostly and have been enjoying this a lot. If there is a way, I will make GBS rock. I dont know if I can make Chris Cross do the same:p 🙂 Actually, I love that type of challenge, this year I took a Buddy Holly tune and made it rock with a couple of students. Bring CC on and send the waitress over for another round (and handsome waiter for the ladies!)

rock on my GBS family xoxo:D

Now easy there cody, you got something to prove??:p 🙂 😉 😀

    July 28, 2010 at 8:02 am

Wow, virtual drinks. I’ll have a cold Steam Whistle pilsner, a local brew here in Southern Ontario. I’m not a huge sports fan but I will watch any playoff game-except for soccer. Watching this year’s World Cup was like being strung out on ludes.
I’ll take care of the music. Feel free to ask me to turn it down, it tends to get loud whenever I am around. I’ll take requests, but everything will be played through a Ramones musical point of view.

    July 27, 2010 at 3:27 pm

right on synthia…..mmmmm, pulled pork, is that the Portugese kind?? So cool you walked on your own, you might not like me to say this but please be careful! 🙂

I walked home from physio for the last two days. I got impatient waiting for my ride yesterday. Ihad the Ramones first album on the i-pod and got inspired by the power of the music to get up and walk it. It was the first walk through the neighbourhood and I made it. VERY tired afterward but worth it.

rock on my GBS brothers and sisters XOXO

Cathie, Harry, Katy those are great posts.

Let’s face it folks, the best medicine for this wretched sickness is distraction. Find something for the mind, heart and soul and we can fight this!

    Keep the good stories coming!

    Hello all

I was able to tune my lighter elec guitar yesterday to a tuning that only requires two fingers on my fretting hand to play. Result was i was riffing hard for about 20 min and had some fun. Sound was dark as though there was a monster in my amp. Bottom line it was fun.

Also was able to BBQ a nice piece of pork tenderloin to perfection. Enjoyed some local fresh corn and a full glass of australian shiraz with it for dinner.
