Traveling to Africa after GBS?

      I was diagnosed with GBS in 2020. I had not had any vaccinations for over a year before I developed GBS. I have recovered almost all of my function and am steadily getting stronger. I’m traveling to Tanzania in September and am wondering if anyone has experience being vaccinated for yellow fever and typhoid after recovering from GBS?

      I have no firsthand experience with either of these shots. But it appears the Typhoid shot may pose a risk of triggering a recurrence of GBS. Here is an article that may be of interest: https://jnnp.bmj.com/content/73/3/348

      I had a very severe case of GBS in 2014.  Got a typhoid shot in 2018 for Asia and a Yellow fever shot in 2019 for South America.  I had no issues.  The travel Dr. I saw was fully aware of my history.  I am also planning a safari in Tanzania for spring 2022.

      A pickup soccer game in Amsterdam turned into a nightmare when I went up for a header and landed on someone’s foot, snapping my ankle in two places. The crack was so loud that the game stopped, and a guy who turned out to be a nurse immobilized my leg with a rolled-up jersey and two corner flags. The hospital in Amsterdam put in a plate and seven screws, then handed me a bill for fifteen thousand euros. My travel insurance denied the claim because “organised sport” required a special rider, even though this was just a casual game in a park. The screws are permanent, and they ache when it rains, but at least I’m not still paying for that Dutch hospital.
