The Cost of Treatment-Yikes

So my insurance allows you to see incoming charges and once processed, what they will allow, pay, and finally what you owe.

Yesterday, the charge from the 5 day hospital stay, where I received 5 treatments of IViG popped up.

The hospital billed the insurance company $100,000! It is still processing, so the discounts, etc, haven’t been factored in, but yikes!

Not cheap getting this disease. Thankfully the $2 bottle of steroid pills seems to be keeping the immune system in check for the last month or so.

I was diagnosed and hospitalized on 12/13/16 thru 12/25/16.. the bills submitted totaled $249,658 all said and done.
Thankful I was able to receive the care I was given but ….

My one day outpatient IVIG was $19,000 last week just for the pharmacy! Looks like the contracted rate insurance and I will pay is about $5800. Wow!

Yeah it is very expensive! My cost for 2 days of ivig treatment is $60,000. I get the treatment every 6 weeks so $540,000 for the year. Thank God for insurance! So I always end up paying the out of pocket maximum.

This is why insurance companies want to be sure you have a disorder which is treatable with IvIg before approving it.
