Sepsis from Imuran

Just thought I would report what happened to my hubby when he started Imuran. He has CIDP Lewis Sumner variant and has been on IVIG monthly since September. On Dec.7th, the neurologist added Imuran. He started out with 50 mg. once a day for a week, 100mg for the second week. On the 13th day of receiving the Imuran, he started getting chills and had a temperature of 39.4C. I gave him Tylenol and in the morning his temp. was a little subnormal. But by 2 PM that day he started with very bad chills and once again temp was 39.4 C. His neurologist office is shut down for the holidays so I have no luck reaching her. I decided to take him to the hospital. By the time we got to the hospital his temperature was nearly 104 and he was admitted ASAP with diagnosis of Sepsis from the Imuran. I guess he is one of the few that react very badly to Imuran. He is still in the hospital getting IV fluids and antibiotics. So be aware if you start on Imuran to monitor for the kind of symptoms he has. He is still pretty sick.
