Last year there were some reports that Franklin Roosevelt had GBS, not polio. I recently watched “Warm Springs” on HBO and thought about the effect that FDR’s disease had on him. Some historians feel that his disability and subsequent interaction with the poor, the elderly, the disabled may be part of the reasoning behind social security. It is lovely to think so — a whole country may have gotten lemonade because FDR was hit with a horrific lemon.
