My state employees BCBS has changed over to one provider who decides the supplier and/or costs.
I told my current IVIG provider about this and they cut their price in half to stay in the game.
I was paying $ 10,000.00 for 50 grams. Now it’s $ 5,500.00 for 50 grams.
Seems a little competition can work.
BCBS has different contract agreements with different providers. Sometimes, the huge differences in cost make absolutely no sense. When I was on IVIg therapy, I received 62 gms on varying schedules. Blue Cross paid one provider $7,000 for 62 gms of 10% Carimune. They paid another supplier $34,000 for 62 gms of 10% Gamunex. When I called BCBS and asked about the disparity in prices, they told me that those were the contracted prices…..end of story.
