EMG Test Results

Wondering if there’s any Dr’s on this site that might be able to answer this question.
If one had all symptoms of GBS but didn’t have an EMG until 8 weeks out of onset, would it show anything?
I have had all the symptoms of GBS, first in 2009, and again now, but have been run from one specialist to another without a clear diagnosis (just like in 2009, no one seems to know what’s wrong with me).
When the Neurologist finally did the EMG (8 weeks out from onset of muscle weakness) I was told “all your nerves are working great!” and it couldn’t be GBS.
I’m just wondering if an EMG 8 weeks out from onset would be a reliable indicator of GBS at that point.
What I’m currenlty dealing with now is trying to recover from all the massive muscle weakness, atrophy, tendonitis, and joint laxity. Nerve pain is gone.
Would love to hear your thoughts regarding this. Thank you!

Sorry to hear what you are going through and good look getting some answers and hopefully treatment. I can’t answer your question, but I was wondering if you are seeing a neurologist that is recognized by this Foundation as a “Center of Excellence”. Also, is it possible that you have CIDP, not GBS? Have you had a lumbar puncture (spinal tap), brain/spine MRI, nerve biopsy and a blood lab panel that would rule out many other diseases? Do you have all of your deep tendon reflexes?

“good luck”, not good look. Guess I should proofread BEFORE hitting submit!

Hi B… I think that’s a good idea; to look for a Neurologist that is recognized by the Foundation as a ‘Center of Excellance’. My biggest concern now is that I was not diagnosed accurately at onset, and now two months later, am still having extreme difficulty walking, am in braces and can only walk very little.
Last time this happened to me I couldn’t walk without braces until 4 months out from onset.
I am seeing an orthopedic doctor on Wednesday because my legs are so messed up from the muscle wasting, tendonitis, and joint laxity. I feel like PT isn’t making much of a dent yet. Muscles are still all mush.
