Does anyone know who is the leading physician for GBS in Western New York?

We are currently seeing a neurologist who claims to be the best but is treating my father who was stricken with GBS in May, very conservatively.

He has been home from the rehab hospital for a month, still has considerable pain, and cannot sit for more than 20 minutes at a time. We are at our wits end.

If you can suggest someone please do so.

      Thanks,

      Glenn

      Hi Glenn
I am in CNY and see a good neurologist, Dr. Francisco Gomez. Sometimes he has a little attitude but I believe he knows what he is doing. I also heard there is a good female neuro up at University Hospital here in Syracuse but I don’t know the name. I am not sure what you mean by conservative treatment but GBS is a syndrome that is out of our control. Most patients will need IVIG treatments, but then it is up to your body to start the healing process. In the meantime, we can keep working on stregthening muscles, stretching, etc. It also takes a long time to heal. I didn’t believe my doctor at first, but here I am 8 months later and I know I will be dealing with this for some time to come. Does your father take medication? I take a neurontin and Cymbalta. I use narcotic pain killers at bedtime. Yes, the pain is unbearable at times but some drugs will make it a little better. I will keep your Dad in my prayers. No one should get this syndrome.
