      Ankle Foot Orthotic?

Does anybody have any experience with AFO’s? I am being fitted for one, and am interested in learning more. The orthotist mentioned being very careful of blisters, types of shoes, activities, care, soreness, muscle atrophy, etc.

If anybody has additional information, I am greatly appreciative!

      Thanks

      Hi Doug,

One size larger shoe should do the trick, and that ortho guy will gladly fine tune that AFO after you’ve been in it for a time, to adjust it for comfort. Just ask, and you will have to go to his shop for it. Either heating the plastic and putting a bend somewhere, and here’s the hard part people can’t seem to figure out, you don’t need all that plastic around a foot. That can be cut away to add comfort too without effecting anything. I started with a stock one like everybody gets, and over time, we took more and more plastic away, like past the balls of the foot, on the sides and so forth. It should be articulated to start(a hinge at the ankle area for movement) beings your not that dependent.
