Thank you all, you guys are wonderful. The monitor on my good old dell is the old style, big, like the old style portable TV’s and bigger then a microwave. About a year ago, I increased the RAMS in it. I haven’t had any serious problem with this computer. TO KEEP OR NOT TO KEEP. I keep going back and forth with a decision. If I get a new computer and it had VISTA, I’d have to get a new printer and a new scanner that will run on VISTA. Plus I’d have to get a keyboard, all extra expenses. Unless I can find a good deal on an ALL-IN-ONE computer. See I learned what that is, computers are all-in-ones too, it’s not just printers. I learned from my father, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, my old Dell works fine, SO DON”T BUY A NEW ONE!!! Take my old one with me and get a new one when the old one won’t work anymore.

BUT, I would really love to have a brand new one that might last a lifetime!!! I’ve realized that I’ve been through alot and I deserve one, tight budget or not!!

I’ve been considering a Dell Inspiron 530’s, these can come with Windows XP, so I can run my printer and scanner.

Hi Family,
I was kinda freaking out about making a big money loss mistake in buying a new computer. You see a price advertised, then you go to the site and it looks like the screen (monitor?) and keyboard aren’t included, which is going to mean more money added onto the price.

My brother suggested that I buy a new computer so that I have it all packed safely in a box for shipping. I WOULD RATHER KEEP THE DELL THAT I HAVE, PACK IT AS CAREFULLY AS I CAN TO TAKE WITH ME, but my brother is difficult to talk to and until “HE” sees that this is the best thing to do, he won’t listen (kinda like it’s his way or no way). I think I’ll just tell him I won’t move unless my good working dell goes with me (HE HE HE).

I don’t know what month I’ll be moving yet because I’m still in the “looking” stage and if I say I’m moving to……………that could change tomorrow. IT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE FLORIDA THOUGH, because they offer the best to meet my budget and other needs. I’m going to look at my first place on May 20th, if I like what it looks like, then I’ll post with photo’s of my new home.

Liz,
I have a Dell that is 5 1/2 years old now & I still love it. Why do you need a new computer? My son & son-in-law, both computer majors in college, said my computer will last me indefinitely if I take good care of it. Fortunately, I have them to keep it running smoothly. I have also heard bad things about Vista, & am scared of giving up Windows XP…

Dear Family,
Thank you for the replies. I panic BIGTIME when something goes wrong with my computer and only my family here can understand that it’s a lifeline for me. I SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED THAT I HAVE WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION. I’m still online, so I’m beginning to feel confident that I won’t crash again. I only seem to have lost a few things, but all can be set up again, no big deal, nothing was a permanent loss. And it seems like I now have to LOGIN each time I come here, but no big deal.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PM COMPACDISC, I”LL PROBABLY TRY TO CALL YOU IN A FEW DAYS. I JUST HAVE A FEW MORE THINGS TO WORK THROUGH.
