Well…. here I am after almost three years! I had no idea I had responses here… it does not notify me I do not guess….. I am going to try checking the temperature…. I have always had a lower temp than usual.. even when I was hospitalized with GBS It would register lower than norm instead of higher…..

I am on here tonight for the first time since the last post.. researching my current symptoms… I have what feels like shingles on both sides of my upper abdomen and back…. ER said they are not on both sides… so I needed to get with a doctor who is familiar with GBS.. so I will be doing that Monday…but for not I am in serious pain in back…. skin feels like a bad sunburn in front and just serious deep muscle pain around to back.. can’t stand to cough, or sneeze… hurts in back so bad….. my legs and arms have felt the strange pain I often feel except more intese….

Thanks so much for the advice here and I am SO sorry I am so inconsistant with checking in! I will do better!

Yes I have had shingles at least twice a year for the past three years. That is what my physician has concluded. I never really get over them they just go into a milder state. Still it is so painful. Does anyone take morphine MS Contin for pain management? I want to try to find something different for pain but so far have been unsuccessful. Please share any thoughts……

Have you been checked for shingles? I am not a doctor (I don’t even play one on TV:p ), however, I have had several family member that have had shingles and they have similar symptoms to what you are experiencing.
I am new here and have not posted much yet.
Thanks for allowing me to add my two cents!

I had shingles about a year before the CIDP came to visit. Back then there were no pills and my episode lasted about 3 weeks. Know how painful they can be. Good luck and congrats on the chair. They (the chair) sure makes like easier!

There is presently a shingle shot you can get now. Very expensive I have been told but worth it if you do not want to ever get the shingles. My husband Bill was told that he should not get the shot now since having shingles but I should.

Hey ali, I was told the last time I had shingles that if I think I have it to call right away bc there is a med that works but must be given at the first signs or symptoms (within 24-48 hours).

Old Bat, each time (2) I had shingles it was limited to one side of my body. First time one side from belly to back. Second time one side from back to belly. I had just a few blotches each time. I thought I had it again recently across the front of my belly. But Doc said shingles affect either side of the body not both.
Wishing everyone well!

OLD BAT and SMILEY….I found your comments about Shingles interesting. I too came down with shingles after backpacking for 6 weeks through 10 countries in Europe ALONE. I got rid of it in two days after finding out it was viral and taking vitamin C. ( A leading dermatologist said it was FLEAS!) Several of my friends have also used it to get rid of shingles. It works. So easy and yet people suffer with it. I do wonder if there is any relation between shingles and GBS. I have such faith that this website will stumble upon the answer. I know my GBS was caused by stress. SO I think it is viral and the stress accelerated the growth of the virus. When I took massive doses of vitamin C, it slowed down the progress of the GBS. I have gone back and looked at my e-mail to friends for the two months before I got paralyzed, I could see it coming. ( I had had GBS 20 years before.) So my hypothesis is that the cortisol that my body generated for the stress it was under for a year before and the virus was replicating itself, that is why I got GBS in October 2006. It came on slowly because I took massive doses of vitamin C and the body absorbed every bit of it. Guess I didn’t take enough!

[FONT=”Comic Sans MS”][SIZE=”3″]Hi Smiley,
Just curious, do you recall if your Shingles was confined to one side of your body?
I had Shingles as a child, back then it was thought to be a ‘nervous’ (read hysterical) disorder, at least by our family doc. I had it again after my first hospitalization and it was quite extensive, even including the palm of my left hand. I also had Thrush, it was not a pretty picture!:( BTW I’m O-
Wonder if this idea of eating, or living right 4 your type is similar to the Ayurdvedic theory of the three types based on one’s body type? I’m just hearing about this, guess I need to go searching. 🙂
See ya
