scarey email

I do not want to add to the controversy at all. I just want to say that it is really scarey some of the junk email that comes especially when one does not expect it like in a protected site. I also would have been dramatic about it because it is so unexpected in this site, but there were recent postings about infiltration of the site by unwelcome visitors–one selling stuff and one like this— so it happens (commented on in August and November and at least one posting by the GBS IT support guy that I remember). At work, most of my email comes from predictable places, but on the forum, there are a lot of people with a lot of different personal email providers and one cannot guess by title or person if it is really a forum member or someone else. The “bad” emails I get virtually never have an explicit title and, yes, I do not open them to see how bad they are, but my email account on my office computer allows me to see the first line of the message without opening it (Thank goodness) and so can avoid this unless I am on the laptop computer. I felt constantly battered and afraid to use the computer at the beginning when I was opening them or getting a lot. It was like having a flasher on the computer. I stopped getting as many unwanted messages when I stopped using out-of-office automatic replies.

Anniedee3249, I hope that you do not leave the forum.

I fully admit to being old enough to still not be comfortable with the internet and all that comes with use of it–both good and bad, but this grey haired Southern lady grew up believing that kindness and politeness are very important in this world–now more than ever as we can now communicate almost instantly with people we have never met.
