Survivor has no cold or flu for 16 years and counting

In 2004, my 78-year-old mother was diagnosed for and treated for GBS. She recovered with a surprising outcome. She is now 94 years old and has no major health problem. Here is the big surprise. Since treatment for GBS, Mom has not had one instance of a cold or flu. Previously, she had cold and flu symptoms every year or so, just like everyone else. Doctors hear her story and respond with a solicitous, “That’s nice.” So I assume this is an uncommon experience. Nonetheless, we are thankful for whatever connection there might be to GBS and/or the treatment.
