There’s an interview with the authors of No Laughing Matter available at http://wiredforbooks.org/josephheller/ You’ll require a RealNetworks player to listen to it.

The book is about Heller’s bout with Guillain-Barre, and his famous friends and visitors while he was recovering. (He may be familiar as the author of Catch-22 .)

Very cool, Olav. I’m a big fan of the Beat Generation, so I hope some of my favorite authors will be on there!

Heller is probably most famous as the author of Catch-22, which was later made into a movie. If you’ve ever heard the phrase “catch-22” it’s because the title of the book has become famous all by itself.

Heller is of interest to the forum mostly because he’s a famous writer who got Guillain-Barre and wrote a book about it. He was a good writer (he died in 1999), and a humorous one, which makes the book a fun read. His hospital visitors included the comedian Mel Brooks and the actor Dustin Hoffman, among others.
