Help patient Evaldui

Hello, this group was formed in order to find some assistance for Evaldas Sakalauskas, who fell ill with tick-borne encephalitis in 09-11-2013.
This illness lead to another very rare disease Guillain- Barre Syndrome.
He was treated in Kaunas hospital Neurosurgical Intensive Care unit untill 13-02-2014.
The doctors saved Evaldas’ life and we are sincerely grateful for that.
Evaldas had an induced coma which lasted almost 3 months.
From the beginning of the illness up to the present day Evaldas has artificial respiratory ventilation and tube- feeding.
In 14-02-2014 he was moved to s. Kudirkos hospital in Alytus district.
One week in this hospital he was in the Intensive Care unit and now he has moved to the Maintenance treatment and Nursing department.
At present the condition of Evaldas is stable but the difficulty is that the doctors don’t know what is going to happen in the future, whether he is the same as before his illness, will he be able to walk, use his hands, eat and breathe unaided.
We, Evaldas’ family, believe that he can get well again.
Evaldas’ body is paralysed and at present he can only open his eyes, move his head and fingers just a little, but we are happy to see these small improvements.
The doctors treating him tell us not to expect too much as he can stay in this vegetative condition forever because his oblong brain is badly damaged and nobody can tell how much it can recover.
Evaldas needs extremely good nursing, massages and lots of care and attention from his nearest and dearest.
I will tell you in a nutshell what was Evaldas’ life before the illness. Evaldas is 26, he is married and has a son who had his first birthday recently.
He lived in a village in Lazdijai district and rented a one bedroom flat.
Evaldas was sporty, happy and a loving father who didn’t have any health problems before this illness.
