I know so little about this. I was wondering if there is a type of CIDP that can affect the Auonomic nervous system?

yes—most likely they will test you to see if your autonomic system is affected. they tested me for this during my first diagnosis at Lahey then again during my second opinion at Mayo. If you feel the cidp has affected your autonomic system then you should ask to be tested to be sure. Mine was not affected—-so I’m not sure that it will change the treatment at all—but it would be good for you to know if your blood pressure, etc is affected. Im sure if it was there are extra precautions you would want to follow. lori

Thank you so much for your reply LORI222 and GH. Since posting above I have had an opportunity to speak with the Dr. who oversees my treatment at Cornell. He is not a neurologist but is very experienced with CIDP and other autoimmune disorders due to his supervision of all staff at the Rogosin Clinic where I receive plasmapheresis. Although the clinic is essentially for the treatment of out patients who suffer Kidney failure and most of the machines are for dialysis, several plasmapheresis machines are used to treat patients who are rejecting kidney transplants and require an immosuppresive approach. He said that I may have a mild autonomic involvement, but pointed out that if I had classic Autonomic CIDP I would not benefit from plasmapheresis. In fact my blood pressure would prevent my being treated with it, since it would immediately drop dangerously. Thanks for your kind reply.
