god save thomas!

so thomas is watching the weather channel, and floods are predicted in his town. he starts praying that god help him. a few hours later, he hears a knock on the door and his neighbor in a 4-wheel drive says to him that the waters are rising and offers thomas a ride to higher ground. thomas says, no thanks, but “god will take care of me.”

a few hours later, the sheriff rows by, tells thomas, who’s now on his 2nd story porch, they’re evacuating everyone and to hop in the boat to be taken to safety. thomas turns him down, saying that god will take care of him.

at the end of the day, the waters have risen significantly, and thomas is on his roof, praying. soon thereafter, a national guard helicopter hovers over and they offer him a ride to safety, but thomas also turns them down, saying that god will take care of him.

finally, thomas drowns and when he’s at the pearly gates, he asks god, why have you forsaken me, why have you not saved me when i was in need???

god’s answer – …
you fool, what more do you want – i sent a 4 wheel drive, then a boat, and finally a helicopter, and you still did not accept my help!!!

(there’s probably a much better version than my paraphrasing above, but first i heard it, i chuckled, but it also made me think a bit),
