Sclerotic Lesion

      Hi friends.
It has been a while since I have posted here. I know these forums to be an excellent source of helpful information. I have a new medical issue that I am sure someone here has some input to share that may help me and others.

I was diagnosed with GBS 4 years ago, and after a relapse it was determined that CIDP is the primary cause of all of my motor and sensory issues. I have been doing OK lately, my last treatment was plasmapherisis about a year ago. I take 900 mg. of Neurontin per day.

Over the past several months, I have noticed pain in my right hip. At first I shrugged it off as another symptom of my disorder, but I rarely feel pain or any sensations above the knee.
I have noticed a marked increase in the discomfort in my hip over the past few weeks. If I turn over while sleeping and rest on my right side, the pain will awaken me. Usually once I am up and on my feet, the pain levels out, but it is still there and evident to some degree all day.
I finally mentioned it to my doctor when I noticed pain in my left hip as well. My good doctor ordered x-rays of both hips.
The radiologist and my doctor agree that there is a Sclerotic Lesion on the femoral neck. My doctor explains this as a lesion or a growth on the femur bone where it meets the hip.
My doctor has me scheduled to have an MRI this coming week, to take a better look at the lesion.
My question here tonight is has anyone heard of or experienced a sclerotic lesion ??
I have spent hours online trying to understand this condition, but all the information combined is very confusing. My doctor is reserving his thoughts until the MRI is complete, when he has a better idea of what is happening.
Any information that can be provided here would be greatly appreciated.
My e-mail is posted here for those who may want to send a private message.

Thank you all for your help today, and all of the help that has been offered to me in the past. I look forward to hearing from anyone who has experienced a sclerotic lesion.
      Thanks again….Barry

      Barry,
My mother had one of those – basically I think the bone died in her hip. She lived with it for about a year until the pain got bad enough for her to get the hip replaced. She was up and out of bed the day after the surgery, did all her PT and now you would never know that both of her hips are metal.

I don’t know if that is what you have or not but I remember the term sclerotic lesion. It might not be a big deal but surgery for anyone with CIDP is risky. Don’t panic yet, truly my Mom could have lived with the pain for awhile longer but she is the amazingly active for her age (73) and was impatient to get back to running around like a nut. :p

      Good luck,

      Julie
