So,
I’ve been telling you all of Sandy (my sis) who’s paralyzed head to toe, trached, gtube, etc….
The very frustrating part (like its all not frustrating) is not being able to communicate with everyone.
Well…Uncle Roy & Uncle Don have been working very hard to get this transmitter program working for her. It is basically an electrode that attaches to any voluntary muscle. With drop down screens you should, essentially, be able to spell and communicate. Initially the electrodes were not responding to her weak muscle signals. they found a more sensitive-to-the-thouch program and tonight she used it!! It was about 10:30 byt the time they got to introduce it to her and she was very tired after a long day of “eye spelling” and regular hospital nonsense, but she took to it right away once it was hooked up correctly for her. This computer (which all do, BTW) has a voice activation. So after typing it in, using the motioning of her jaw, this is what Uncle Roy, Uncle Don and Mike, her husband heard:“straighten my ankle. Kiss your wife.”
no sweeter computer-voiced words have been heard in a long time.Thought you would all be interested to know that such a program exists!

I am so glad to hear that she can now communicate with all of you. It is so cool that there is software out there like that. Its also great that your uncles are able to provide it to her.
Has she started the cytoxan yet? have you seen any improvement in her condition yet?
Have you been able to get a hold of Emily yet?Thinking and praying for your family

I called the number that was given to me but got a voice mail. I did leave a message, but haven’t heard anything yet.
She did have one Cytoxan treatment. She is now moving her head better and her jaw. Is this due to the cytoxan? not sure, but we are going to say that she’s on her way. Baby steps. All in baby steps.
She will be moved to an LTAC facility probably on Monday. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that it all goes smoothly. We love the nurses and facilities at Lutheran general (where she is now), but we can’t stay there forever, I guess.
Keep the faith!
