Jack Daniels and GBS

I sometimes like a stiff drink, but it seems to heighten the paresthesia in my legs. The numbness increases. Has anyone had a negative experience with alcohol similar to mine? Does it worsen GBS?

If you are on certain medications, they say to avoid alcohol. I will have an occassional drink with friends but it usually causes me to turn beat red. I switched to beer- I can only drink a max of two. Occasionally one wine cooler. Normally I drink about once every month or two. Except on vacation- more often- but never more than one or two. Due to the meds I’m on, I would never push it any further. Besides, after the second drink- I feel sorta yucky. And yes, sometimes it does seem to increase the numbness/tingling a little- I have CIDP.

      Hey Hedley

Jack Daniels hasn’t done in Keith Richards-yet. I agree with jean that I have to be careful while on meds. I used to love a nice grand marnier after a sunday meal…..maybe bailey’s in the coffee now?…..I have enjoyed afternoon and evening beer and wine with friends, hasn’t done me in-yet….I usually have the tingles in full force by the evening, beer and wine do not seem to be a factor either way, fatigue is….perhaps a nip pushes me to fatigue?…..good to hear from you…..

early on, alcohol would cause my system to negatively react. Usually with an instant headache after only a sip of a beer. I was unable to enjoy a drink for 3 years!

Now yes meds could cause issues, talk with your doctor. Doctors always double the amount you admit to having….my own admitted this. I explained I have to be honest with him because my health is a very important issue, beside I am an honest person. If I say I have a beer or three a week, that is what I have. No more no less. I talked to him about being able to enjoy a drink in spite of the meds I take, he said as long as I am not drinking a 6 pack a day and hopefully not more than 2 drinks preferably, then he was not concerned. I am not giving you the okay to drink, just something to talk with your doctor about for his advice.
