Life can be very surprising, regardless of hours, days or weeks. Let me start it last January20, 2016 Wednesday. My younger brother, Christian Joseph (Ceejay) was still able to visit me that same day I had the operation and we were sharing the experience while having dinner.
Now, during the same day I was being discharged, I received the news that he is now been admitted to a government hospital because his health condition is radically deteriorating. And that the doctors cannot finalized the diagnosis as of yet, he was just given an antibiotic for his URTI, no dextrose was given as well. The day after I heard the news, January 23, 2016 Saturday, although I am still recovering from my surgery I decided to visit him to find out what’s his current condition. I was shocked, seeing that he is weakening and having a slurred voice when he’s speaking which you can’t understand not unless you ask him again once or twice. They told me that the doctors suspect it’s a Guillian-Barre’ Syndrome, which I don’t have a clue on what kind of illness is that. So I immediately made research about it and find out that it is a rare disease which can happen to anyone and has a ratio of 1 out of 100,000. It’s a neurological problem that affect the body’s immune system begins to attack the body itself, causing what is known as an autoimmune disease. That it injures or degrade the peripheral nerves resulting to paralysis and respiratory dysfunction. After reading that, I told myself that this is very serious and we needed to act fast in order to save him. Next thing we did is to know how it is being treated; most common are “Plasmapheresis” which means Plasma exchange and high dose of immunoglobulin therapy. Immediately, we tried to ask where we can bring him to do this procedure and last January 24, 2016, Sunday we transferred him to the nearest Medical Center. Unfortunately the response we get is that this treatment is expensive and series of tests and procedures needs to done first. We were quoted with P 100,000 – 150,000 or US \$3,125 for the hospital expenses only not including the IVIG therapy at P360,000 or US \$7500. It saddened the whole family, and when Ceejay overheard the amount, even he is struggling with his condition he still reacted and was worried and surprised. I approached him and whispered that he don’t need to worry about it, that he just need to focus on himself only and stay strong mentally and physically so we can get through with this trial. I gave him assurance that this will be taken cared of even at the back of my mind I’m asking how? It melts my heart, knowing that we cannot afford such treatment and gave us worries on where are we going to get the funds? But we are claiming and believing that this will be provided by the almighty and we just need to sit tight, keep your trust and lay all of your worries in him and he will make a way for all this. Christian Joseph is a graduating student this coming April 2016 as a BS Marine Engineering at PMI Colleges (Quezon City Philippines). He just turned 19 years old last December 24, 2015, he is also an active church member and physically healthy who works out and exercise a lot to keep his body in shape. He has a lot of dreams to fulfill as a marine engineering, he aims to travel the world and earn a position in the seaman’s world. In the same time, help his family live a better life. With his noble heart and compassion with God and our religion, I believe that this is only a difficult stage in his life but confidently enough he will overcome and surpass this trial. Christian Joseph (Ceejay) is a graduating student this coming April 2016 as a BS Marine Engineering at PMI Colleges (Quezon City Philippines).

I wish you luck and praying for Ceejay to get the treatment he requires to get well.
