I had organ involvement and vomiting with GBS. My lumbar puncture was normal but I was still diagnosed since I had symmetrical paralysis. I was in the hospital for 4 months as it progressed extremely slow even with IVIG. My liver failed, enzymes were in the thousands and biopsy was normal. My kidneys began to fail as well. I constantly vomited anything put into my stomach, even with a feeding tube running at the slowest possible rate. At one point my throat was so weak that I had aspirated the vomit into my lungs and went into cardiac arrest. They have no explanation for my rare symptoms to this day.

This was 5 years ago. I’m alive and well but still suffer from unknown GI issues. I also have had issues with my heart like afib, tachycardia & bradycardia, and orthostatic hypotension, which is common with autonomic issues. GBS is different for everyone, that I know for sure. Hope all is well. Xx

Thank you! I have a 9 month old son, the fatigue and nerve pain is starting to take a toll on my body. I had a EMG AFTER my GBS and I have a lot of nerve damage in my hands and feet. I had a severe case of GBS and was also not expected to live. I will take these ideas to my rehab doctor. Thanks.

I live in Michigan also. I went to University of Michigan Hospital’s Inpatient in Ann Arbor. This is a GREAT hospital/inpatient and they had a lot of therapists that specialize in patients with GBS. I highly recommend this rehab facility if you are able to get in. (There is sometimes a waiting list.)

I had a severe case in March 2010. I had 7 rounds of IVIG and got the itchy rash after my last 2. (I had also taken Benyadryl) I went to the derm and they gave me some creams to help. It’s mostly gone now.

I had numbness in my hands and feet for a long time. I wasn’t able to type or feel the keyboard for weeks. It will come back slowly. GBS effects everyone differently. Good luck!

Thanks. I went to the doc again and he gave me valium and some other med. It went away in a few days. If it happens again, I am going to call my Neurologist.

    Tonya,

I got GBS March 2010 and was at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. I live in Novi, so I don’t know any primary care physicians there, but if you ever need a rec for a neuro, let me know….I know a ton out there! 🙂

In March of 2010, I was 24 weeks pregnant with my son when I got GBS. I could not swallow so I had a feeding tube and lost 50 lbs. I had a pretty severe case and by 30 weeks, I aspirated and needed a breathing tube. I went into cardiac arrest so they did an emergency c-section. Within days later, my symptoms just disappeared and I was able to move again.

I am not much help as my son is only 6 months old, but so far he has been very strong and healthy. I am still tired and weak but I can walk and use my hands again.
