      Donna,
Good luck with your laser therapy. Stopping smoking can get ‘interesting’. I stopped four or five times a day until I finally got serious.

You will be in my prayer tomorrow.

You can do this! You are a very strong individual and will work toward your goal. Before you ever light up again…..get out a piece of paper and write down why you want to quit smoking. By then the urge will have passed. BE STRONG!

      Donna,

Please share with us about this laser therapy.

My work just announced the property will be smoke free in 3 months ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I only get 3 cigs in my 8 1/2 hour work day, but… totally freaking out right now. I smoked a whole pack when I got off work yesterday because of stressing on this issue.

So your time is 2:30 today – eastern… I will be thinking of you at 1:30 my time. Good luck!!!

    • June 8, 2007 at 10:50 am

Good luck Donna! My neighbor had that procedure and it worked, she smoked three paks a day. She had it done last May and is still smoke free! Just think of all the things you can do with the saved money. By the way, your sons wedding pictures were vety nice, I see you are a boy mom too! It is nice to put a face to the “words”. Based on your previous avatar, I was sooooooo expecting you to look differently!!! I was picturing big hair, leather and maybe a motorcycle!!! Well I hope that gave you a little laugh! Good luck today and every day forward with out smoking! I wish they had a laser surgery for eating! That is my dilema! Dawn Kevies mom ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

      What is laser therapy?

    • Anonymous
      June 8, 2007 at 11:50 am

      Hi Jim,

It’s a cold laser that they use on certain pinpoints that target the habit you need to get rid of. Sort of like accupuncture. They aim the laser at your ear, nose, and the webbing between your thumb and pointer finger. I’ll let you know all the specifics tonight or tomorrow. I do have a huge problem though, the friends that I have dinner with every Friday night are all smokers and I will need to stay away from them for awhile. One of the friends said if it works for me, that he is willing to try it. You just need to be ever so ready to give it up, which I am. I have been praying so hard to help me give up this disgusting habit.

I do know 5 people who did this therapy over a year ago and they have not had the urge to smoke since then.

      Hi Dawn,

They do have laser therapy for weight loss. A little secret, I love big hair and I do love riding on a motorcycle. Before I met Frank, one of my boyfriends had a Harley and I loved riding on the back. We drove in the country, it was great. Some of my friends husbands have Harleys and I ride with them all the time. Most of the doctors and lawyers I know all own Harleys, it’s a different breed of people who own Harleys now. Makes me want to buy one and just ride off into the sunset.

      Wow Donna!!! So fantastic ๐Ÿ˜€

I have been watching your progress with my own situation in mind. May I ask what kind of cost there was? Do you think it will work if I mostly want to quit, but not 100%? Please share with me as much as you can as I am freaking out doing research for my employer – I’m thinking they need a non-smoker to do this research as I get soooo stressed out talking about it all. I’ve checked on the Commit lozenges and gum stuff… may buy some at the store tonight.

I would really like to do what you have done and not tell anyone around me – especially my family. I’m so scared…

Hi Chrissy, 5 Days today, still no pain or withdrawals or cravings

The first question that laser therapy asks is are you sure you are ready to give up smoking? I was 100% ready. The cost here in New Jersey is $299, but I think it’s well worth it considering how much we pay for a pack of cigarettes. Chrissy the “laser therapy” is great, it doesn’t make you stop smoking that is why you must be 100% sure you want to quit. What it does is take away all the cravings and withdrawals, so you feel nothing. Last time I quit smoking I used hypnosis, but it was horrible, the withdrawals for me lasted for 3 weeks, I had a breakdown. With this company New Beginnings, if I need a booster laser therapy they give it to me for free. It lasts for about 5 days, just enough for the nicotine to leave the body. I swear I can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner but I was afraid of all the withdrawals and cravings.

I will not be one of those reformed smokers who tell people to stop smoking because as all smokers know, you have to want it that bad to stop. But if they ask me about the laser therapy I would recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone wanting to stop. Ask me whatever you want and I’ll tell you if I have the answer. There are several different companies who do this procedure. It was quite relaxing actually, sat back in a big overstuffed recliner and nearly fell asleep. I wanted to take the chair home with me.

I really am proud of myself for doing this. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

      Brandy,

I have been quietly waiting to see how you would react to this, Donna. It sounds really good……………..I quit a long time ago… (the hard way… {cold turkey}). I am really excited to see this new technique available for others, that want, and need, to quit smoking. I, like you, don’t want to “preach” or anything….. like a reformed smoker. I am just sooooo happy for you, and totally understand what it is like to undergo the after effects of post smoking…………I started chewing tobacco as an alternative, which was WORSE. I actually had a harder time quitting that “disgusting” habit. But now, all is well. A big hug and congratulations to you big D!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Congrats and keep up the good work !

I dont know if they have laser therapy here in my part of the world. Good ol Nebraska. They have a new pill that I’ve heard of called chantix. My sister tried it and got a really bad belly ache. Another lady tried it and not only quit smoking but quit drinking beer, too.

Like you say, you have to really want it for anything to work. I’m so happy for you !

      Donna,

Thanks for your input. (I have to smile because the song “Brandy” is on the radio right now. – You’re a fine girl, what a good wife you would be… I’m sure Frank agreed on that.)

As others said, with all that you have been through the past couple of years, you are a very strong woman. And your attitude toward quitting smoking reflects that. I am processing lots of thoughts on this issue and am taking it one day at a time, unfortunately still smoking. I bought another carton yesterday wasting $27.99. You are a shining example for me (and I bet some others reading this too) and I thank you so much!!!

I also bought some Commit lozenges and try one a little later. I usually munch out between 3 and 5 pm at work as my last smoke break (while I still have them) is at 2 pm.

Is your cough gone? Any change in energy level? You are the ONE!!!

      Hi Chrissy,

I still have my cough, but it doesn’t seem as bad as it used to be, but I also have asthma and severe allergies, so I cough all the time from that. But still much better then a week ago.

I am hoping that my asthma slows down a bit, it has gotten so bad in the last few months, that was another reason that I wanted to stop smoking.

I am not as strong as I appear to be, I have my melt downs all the time. I just try to stay as positive as I can when I come here, not wanting to burden all of my friends with my moments of craziness.

I do thank all of you who help to keep my head above water all the time, I couldn’t do it without the love and support I get from my family here.

Chrissy when you are ready to stop smoking, you will know that it’s the right time for you. I’ll be your #1 cheerleader when you decide it’s your time.

      Donna,

Just checking in to see how you are doing this Monday, June 18?

Thank you for offering your support maybe in the near future?!?! I have tried one of those Commit lozenges – they are more like a chalky rolaids, but worked for delivering nicotine to my system. I go to my regular PCP next week and plan to ask him about Wellbutrin to take along with Paxil. My niece has taken the two together and reports weight loss (she doesn’t smoke) and anxiety and depression are both better. Wellbutrin (aka Zyban) is supposed to help with nicotine addicition. The newest drug, Chantix, is just that – the newest drug and I don’t want to be a guinea pig. Thanks for listening.

      Good luck Donna!!!!
