Something easy on my feet

Even wearing a sock hurts…..shoes are worse….I’ve gotten “used to it”, but look forward to taking them off! Of course it hurts worse to walk without anything, so at home I’ve been wearing a pair of Crocs “Athens” for a couple of years now.

They have a terrificly soft bottom, and being a thong-sandal there’s nothing up top!

the crocs are great on the feet. I can’t afford the actual croc brand so I bought a really cheap pair and they are wonderful so anything of that type works great.I have trouble with the thong part so I like the regular foot type thing. But the feet are killer sometimes..

I went to an orthopedic type shoe store – I call it “the little old ladies store”. I presented them my feet and said they hurt – help me. So they measured accurately – then told me exactly what size, style, and what to look for in the construction, and what to avoid. They had some shoes that were more stylish, (important for us gals) but fit my needs. I am able to shop for shoes at many regular stores simply by following the guidlines the foot fitting specialist gave me.
About the socks – my Mom would only wear Buster Brown socks – the do not have any stretch at all in them and you have to by your accurate shoe size. She said these were more comfortable then one-size-fits-all socks.
If you have a stumbling problem as I do then a good fit is important.

Hi Ken: I went to a medical specialty store for shoes as well-they told me with the problem of pain I have they doubted their shoes would work and they were right. No shoe ever seems to help and if I wear shoes for more than an hour or so the pain starts. I think maybe, from the picture, the crocs you showed might well help. I found a pair for $20.00 nearby and may try them. Thanks for the tip, Jeff

Wow, I would LOVE to wear these kind of shoes…but no way I could keep them on or not fall b/c there is no support and I cant use my toes to grip b/c the toes dont work anymore. I’d give anything to wear cute sandals again !

I have to wear New Balance tennis shoes…but if your feet hurt with a shoe on, they might not work for you…but might be worth a try.

I do need something to wear at home b/c just in my socks or barefeet, I’m a walking accident waiting to happen.
But, I’ll have to give up this stubborn thing I have first.

Do you ever get a pain in the butt and wear thongs to help with that pain? Ok… I don’t know what is wrong with me and why that was so funny, I was just picturing you in croc thongs and thongs!!!! My Bad!!!! BTW I have those crocs too, I love them, I haqve the furry ones for winter too!! If you ever want to get your grandaughters something cute, Hallmark and Sports Authority, pprobably other stores too, have these little kits you can get to customize your crocs, they are adorable.

I wear acrylic socks that are stretch but do not exert any appreciative amount of pressure on my feet….. When I was at a photo shoot at Yosemite in freezing weather I wore a silk sock under a heavy merino wool hiking (stretch) sock, and a pair of roomy hiking boots. Usually I can ignore the pain, but once when at another shoot-hike the pain became so intense I had to stop and wait a while before limping back to my car.

It’s funny you should mention this Dawn! Everything gives me a pain in the butt and neck…..Although I don’t have any physical pain there. ๐Ÿ˜€

For summer I wear two pairs of super ugly but very thick rubber soled sandals called Ocean Pacific. They have lots of secure Velcro straps but I just slip them and off. This will be year 5 I’ve had them.
What will I do when they fall apart?
Even wearing thick socks with New Balance sneakers hurts.
I finally donated all my sassy sandals to Good Will. It wasn’t safe for me to walk in them any more.
Now its comfort rather than fashion.

fortunately for me, my favorite shoes just happen to be the only ones I find comfortable. I dont know what I will do this summer because the simple sandals I tried last year and the year before ended up making my feet and legs hurt. Not sure if I could wear a thong type sandal…will have to give it a try.

I have to wear a light shoe, otherwise my feet swell too much, and have ankle support for my balance. So, I buy Clarks sandals with three buckled straps on the foot and toes and stap at the ankle, I wear this all summer, grear for me. Limekat-like you, I either sold my stylish shoes at a garage sale or donated them to Goodwill. My main problem-I go to a shoe store and they feel good in the store, but when I actually wear them, they kill my feet, so I return the stylin shoes and go back to the Clarks. Maybe I’ll try the Crocs; they are very popular by me. I was just concerned that the pebbled soles would oversensitive my feet and make matters worse. Hey Dawn, BTW, I do wear the other thongs sometimes-if I can’t be stylin on the outside, I am on the inside.

Ken I give you credit for the job that you do. You take beautiful pictures and hike to get the perfect shot. No one would ever know you are in pain. Off the main subject, sorry, but pain seems to be the mainstay of our lives, so anything we share that helps is what matters most.

I have two pairs (black and brown) of Clarks shoes….. Those “pebbled” soles are not a problem for me….

When I’m out on a photo/hike my problem is the numbness rather than the pain.
My balance is severely affected by the numbness….

I once fell headfirst down a steep rocky slope above a lake in the mountains and nearly went over the edge of a very steep drop…..landed in some large rocks/boulders that stopped my descent.

I was with two other photographers who were able to lift me from the rocks where I ended up crammed into them and unable to move…..I was very upset that they hadn’t got photos of me going down……

Dawn- u silly girl. I think that’s why what we once knew as thongs are now called flip flops. Back when thongs were thongs as in sandals…there wasnt so much popularity with thong undies..everyone always tried pulling their undies down not up. ha ! The old moon days. Yikes. ๐Ÿ˜€

I wish I could wear the flip flops….so many cute ones. I have pink ones with a big fluffy pink flower on the toe…cant keep em on my feet. ๐Ÿ™

Ken, I am so glad you didnt get hurt…that sounds so dangerous…what a trooper you are to get out there like that….wow !
