Hi Mike,
I would like to suggest that you do a search on this site. It has been, and probably will forever be, a much talked about topic. There are quite a few who have received disability. At the moment, I haven’t tried… but, will have insurance next month and plan on (once again) try to find a good neuro.

You can receive benefits for GBS if you a symptematic and unable to work for 6 straight months. That being said, it is not an easy process. SSI has a rule about denying applicants the first time. You will most likely be denied a second time too. On the third try, you will get a little more attention. I think that it is a way of discouraging people to not keep trying. In order to qualify, you have to prove that you have been unable, or see yourself being unable to maintain a job for 6 months or more. You MUST keep all your medical records because they will want copies of them justifying your not being able to work. Another key point is to have one of your medical doctor’s agree to be your advocate. He/She should write a letter suggesting that you stop working or that you cannot work due to the stress level making you become symptomatic. If you cannot maintain a good quality of life because of the stress that working AND family life bring to you, you should not be working, but you have to pay the bills:mad:
A word to the wise::::::: You don’t have to wait to not work for 6 months to apply. You just have to be able to medically prove that you will not be able to work for the upcoming 6 months. You can apply online at www.ssa.gov
Hope this helps! Good luck! -

I got SS after 6 months of GBS, just got check 12-23. Was hospitalized 4-26-9 and had the lung? collapse next day, I lost a month and only know what I was told. Not sure why they lie to me, but the dreams? are UNREAL.
I refused to get a lawyer or whatever they wanted and and had to go through their evaluation. Why would you pay a lawyer to get what they say is owed to you? Then you have to pay the bloodsucker, like we don’t have enough bills.
All I did was fill out paperwork when I “woke up” and let them do their “job”.
I sure ain’t proud of getting it.
Danny
