Memory Issues

I was wondering if anyone remembers the time they were in the hospital. I had a severe case in Nov 2006, & I dont remember anything when I was in the hospital or when I first got to rehab. I was gone for 1 year. The things I know are from what my mom told other drs. Will I ever remember that horrible time or is it just to painful your blocked from that terrible time? I also have a problem with my short term memory & some cognition problems.
