Has anyone ever thought to have internal bleeding as part of this illness? The Neurologist my husband has been seeing refered him to some gastro specialist and they fear internal bleeding. Just was wondering if this is something different or not.

What were his symptoms that brought the neurologist to send him to gastro specialist?

      Hi,

No, no, no. Not a part of GBS. That needs to be dealt with stat, I’d assume. Did he have a feeding tube? Ulsers?

No he has not had ulcers or a feeding tube. I am unsure why the neurologist reffered him there. I believe he had blood in his stools.

Some medications can cause gastro bleeding. What meds is your husband taking? He does need to be seen STAT as said in a previous post, gastro bleeding can be very dangerous.

my husband is on vicodine, wellbutrine, and they just put him on a stomach acid pill to reduce the acid in his stomach in case he is bleeding. He is having an endoscopy on Wed.

Vicodin can cause gastro bleeding. I wish the docs would have done an endoscopy before Wed. I wish him the best.

I became anemic for about 6 mo. as a result of GBS-I believe because of the Neuontin that I was taking(pharmiscist thought). I was put on iron tablets for 6 mo. and that cured the anemia. Hope this helps. My internist wanted to do a upper and lower GI to determine cause of anemia, which is typical way they proceed, however, my plasma phersis doctor, a friend, said no to that because it was too invasive to my recovery so he suggested the fecal occult test first, which came back negative, and then the internist put me on the iron tablets and everything was fine. Hope this helps. elayne
