Hi everyone,
I wanted to write a follow up to my nightmare!!! I went to my psychiatrist last night and poured my heart out about my neuro wanting me to go to the hospital (through the ER) instead of getting my IVIG at home. She too agreed that it was insane for a physician to prefer a patient to get admitted to the hospital instead of receiving treatments at home. She was so kind, that she gave me the missing Rankin Score that I needed for the home IVIG therapy to get approved. My husband faxed it in this morning and the RN is coming over tomorrow to administer the IVIG:D
It is a happy/scary feeling because the neuro only wrote the orders for IVIG. He did not write the orders for benedryl, IV fluids, the reflux medication or any pain medication for my migraines and back pain that I get during IVIG. So I am getting straight out, IVIG with a 6-8 hour drip time (his order), whick is fasster than I have ever received it before!
This is bitter sweet. My insurance company called him today to clear this up, but he wasn’t in the office. I guess we will see what happens tomorrow when someone speaks with him. I hope he gives them clear orders on how to administer this medication to me and that he doesn’t take it personally that he was not the one to give the red light on the treatment, therefore, not giving the orders I need for a successful, comfortable, treatment.
Wish me luck!!!!!
I will keep you all posted!!!!!!! -

If you are going through a home care company then THEY need to deal with the dr directly. My daughter’s dr does NOT dictate how fast she gets the IVIG…the home care company does. There is a formula which is used to determine how quickly it can be infused based on age & weight & volume of IVIG.
You can medicate yourself with Benadryl & Tylenol OR Motrin before & after your infusion. They are over the counter medications & you can give them to yourself…just make sure to let the nurse know.

When I had my IVIG it was done between 3-4 hours and always between 10 PM and 4AM. The nurse had to stay with me every time for the 1st 30 mins. Mine was done in the hospital (Lakoda)
