If you want to understand how IVIG is diagnosed read the BCBS Appendix
Diagnostic Criteria for Diagnosis of Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP)

It’s long, and complicated, but so is your disease, right?

Please pay no attention to the articles origination. Focus on what it says.

“…The following criteria are adapted from the Task Force Report of the Ad Hoc Subcommittee of the American Academy of Neurology AIDS Task Force. (Neurology 1991; 41(5):617-8) The report included mandatory, supportive, and exclusionary diagnostic criteria. Only the mandatory criteria are excerpted here. The criteria are based on a combination of clinical observations, physiologic studies, pathologic features (i.e., nerve biopsy), and studies of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)….

Go to the bottom of the page, past the footnotes to “Appendix”

There will be a test after. hahahaha……….

ok, Read the whole thing, but only understood some. The thing that stinks is that I have to get new health insurance and I’m afraid the new co is going to want up-dated testing.
Anyone else have trouble with insurance changes?

I don’t have to change Insurance Co. and, if I told you, “don’t worry” that would be taking things a little bit lightly. I bet I’d worry too.

Take this bull by the horns. If you know the new company find out their policy on pre-authorization. More than likely the doctor ordering the treatment has somebody on staff to handle the paperwork. Let them handle it.

Lots… of changes since then… Here goes. tho nothing ‘recent’ as of this year? Some lots more recent than ’91…..
url-http://www.aaaai.org/members/resources/initiatives/ivig_toolkit/2006_ivig_evidence_review.pdf-url as of ’06?
For this? url-http://www.bcbsvt.com/export/sites/BCBSVT/Pharmacy/PriorApproval/IVIG_PA_Guide_2010.pdf-url Note the misspellings[for Octagam]? Gets me every time!
These are more recent than what you’d presented. I can find many more, but, will take time I’m not sure I want to commit to.. I do believe I’ve posted key sites here for the years I’ve been here? But, seems no one pays attention.
Goodnight.

Thank you Yeuhan as usual for being so helpful. I appreciate all the time you take to post. Your delivery of the message is what makes it memorable I “used” to do the same, it is a fruitless effort to some. I am glad you posted the best that you could find. Any info is good info!

Thanks for the links to sites explaining about IVIG.

Sadly, this thread’s subject, and of interest to lots of people, is Diagnosing CIDP.

The link to the 2006 evidence review of IVIG does not contain a single reference to CIDP.

The BCBS of Vermont Prior Approval Guide, while containing a useful table of IV-IG brand product FDA approved indications also contains not a single reference to the actual process of diagnosing CIDP.

If you feel you have the time to commit to it, and you find something about diagnosing CIDP, please share it.

Never did find a date on this one… but most GPS and even many neuros don’t know about this one.
This is recent, and while not specifically related to diagnostics? Does relate to determination of possible conditions and what needs to be done to more readily diagnose … in the future tho….
urlhttp://accessible.ninds.nih.gov/news_and_events/proceedings/10_2006_NIH_Peripheral_Neuropathy_Conference.htm#Demyelinatingurl Pretty current, I believe.
Will get more as found.
