Benefit planned for ailing Douglas youth
STAFF REPORTPosted: 6/22/2007
STORY CHAT(read or post comments)A fundraising dinner is scheduled Thursday at Carson Valley Middle School to help a Gardnerville teenager stricken with Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
Jessica Vega, 14, recently contracted the disease as a reaction to a vaccination. She is partially paralyzed and requires physical therapy and ongoing medical treatment.
Organizers of the spaghetti feed said Vega’s medical expenses are ongoing and exorbitant. They said their hope is to defray some of the costs.
The dinner is planned from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of the school, 1475 U.S. 395 South. All proceeds will go to the Vega family for Jessica’s care and expenses.
Tickets for the spaghetti feed are $10 general admission, $5 for those 5 and younger, and $25 for a family ticket. There will also be a raffle and silent auction with items donated by local businesses.
Donations can also be made directly into Jessica Vega’s account at any Bank of America branch. The account number is 5010-0121-5254. For more information call: Donna at 882-8432 or Tondra at 783-8229.
