There certainly can be severe pain with GBS. Parry and Steinberg wrote:

In my case, it was mainly leg pain. Even after getting off pain meds during recovery, I would experience severe pain if someone moved my legs the wrong way.
My advice is to get a copy of Parry and Steinberg and a neurologist who understands the disease.
