I would be interested in being part of your survey.. I had a severe case of GBS and was on life support. I was in the hospital for only 9 weeks and did OT and PT at home until I could venture out to the local rehab facility. If my case is what you are interesting in then check your private messages after you sign in.

Has he received IVIG or Plasmaphresis? That will not cure the damage the immune system is doing to the attack on the myelin sheath aroud the peripheral nerves, but it should stop that attack. Then it takes time for the myelin to repair itself. GBS or Getting Better Slowly is different for everyone and depending on if you have a variant also it takes time to heal. REST is what the nerves need to heal and rehab is what the muscles need to gain strenght again. Keep things possitive! It is a scarey process. Ask him what he needs you to do to help. Somedays will be worse than others. Did you send for the information for caregivers? It is very helpful. You are here with family and tell him about us. Everyone here was in the hospital for different lenghts of time.

Rich my post would read exaclly the same as canuckgirl so I am not going to post that about my treatments and having GBS. I live in Pittsburgh, PA and am not too far from you! I hope this rain stops and we get warmer weather.

I have learned so much from this forum and group of caring people. They take time to answer each question. I have noticed that they treat all questions as important. There is no stupid questions! They take time to look up answers and keep up with the most current treatments. I have learned alot from them!

Hope you get something that works for you and your illness. Don’t give up on the first try. It takes time to see results in some cases. Think possitive and prepare for a big change in your lifestyle.
