B and T cell mediated diseases
Photopheresis is more effective in T cell driven diseases like the mycosis fungoides cutaneous T cell lymphomas. I have seen it used in graft versus host disease after bone marrow transplant. Most of the treatments for GBS/CIDP are directed against B cells. Since both B and T cells are lymphocytes, some treatments work for both (like steroids, methotrexate, etc), but some are less effective in one type of another. I do not know the literature for effectiveness of photopheresis in CIDP, but would be cautious because all immunotherapies are not the same and what works for one “immune mediated disease” will not likely work for another that has a different disease mechanism. It likely would be more beneficial to try something that has a better tract record in B cell mediated diseases.
WithHope for cure of these diseases.
