Reply To: Elevated Blood Pressure and Heart Rate after IVIG
Hi Petra. I had IVIG for 3-1/2 years starting in late 2016. The infusions, especially in my case, needed to be started slowly and then titrated up. I was never able to get to the max infusion rate due to my blood pressure rising and heart rate increase. The infusion nurses monitor the BP every 15 minutes to ensure the rate in not too high. My BP has been higher than ever since my onset of CDIP and the infusions. Not scary high, but I have always had near perfect BP my whole life. I am now 68, so I’m no spring chicken. I take no BP medication although I do now have Reynaud’s Syndrome which is being treated with Amlodipine which is a calcium channel blocker, not blood thinner. It relaxes the blood vessels, so in effect lowers the BP. I hope it helps your mind set and you get your BP back in line. -John
